NAVETAS OF ELOGATED PLAN

DESCRIPTION
Naveta of Es Tudons (lateral vision)

Probably a little later to those "of intermediate pattern", the basic difference between the "navetas of elongated plan" and those turns on the form of the plan, of horseshoe lengthened with the lightly concave facade in these, circular or oval in the other ones.

As in those "of intermediate pattern", it is undeniable their relationship with the Minorcan "megalithic sepulchres" so much for their internal structure, with entrance, corridor and chamber, as for the architectural elements and the technique constructive employees: cover with traverse flagstones, perforated flagstone between the corridor and the chamber, double wall of blocks with small filler stones and, sometimes, superior chamber. The curious thing is, but, the external similarity that they have with the "habitable navetas", which can also give place to confusions if a monument has not still been dug.

In what refers to their geographical distribution, we are distinguished two groups clearly, one between Maó and Alaior and another in the surroundings of Ciutadella. By the way that the oriental group occupies the same area that the "megalithic sepulchres" and the "navetas of intermediate pattern".

CHRONOLOGY

Those of the oriental group seem to have been built in a Pretalayotic (2000-1400 B.C.) advanced, although they continued being used in the Talayotic I (1400-1000 B.C.) Those of the western group have only given remains of this last period and of the Talayotic II (1000-800 B.C.)
