TORRELLAFUDA
(Taulas)

Pilaster of the Enclosure of the Taula of Torrellafuda

LOCATION:

Situation

Some hundreds of meters behind the house of Son Sintes, to which you arrive by a road that begins on the left of the highway Maó-Ciutadella (Me-1) about 300 m beyond the km 37 (towards that second town).

MUNICIPAL DISTRICT:

Ciutadella.

DESCRIPTION:

Fallen and broken. About the stone-support, we can see two pieces, and all leads to think that it was reinforced with a pilaster, also fallen, leaned against its rear face. The stone-capital has a form of frustum of pyramid.

Near, and being part of the same building, we find a pilaster with capital that a lot of people interprets as a taula, but that it is only part of the precinct (in all ways, it is an element almost as big as the taula, or more).

The building was probably of apsidal plan, but the collapse of the contiguous monument that fell above impedes to assure it.

The whole group is inside a grove.

CHRONOLOGY:

Talayotic III (800-450 B.C.) (see the taula of "Bellaventura").

NEIGHBOURING MONUMENTS:

As it accustoms to be habitual, the monument is inside a village , very covered for the vegetation, in which highlight, besides the described precinct, a "talayot" and some "walls" quite well conserved in which some bastions and doors are distinguished. Near, where the path that gives access to the location begins (outside of the parking, next to the road that there is to the west), there is a great "hypogeum" used for stable purposes.

Not very far, through the fields, it is the village of "Torretrencada".
