Talayot of Torralba d'en Salort

LOCATION:

Situation

At 2.9 km from Alaior, in the highway that leads to Cala en Porter from this town. Just beside the highway, to the right going to the aforementioned creek.

MUNICIPAL DISTRICT:

Alaior.

DESCRIPTION:

Exemplar that only conserves some layers on the top of a small mound, probably artificial, located in front of the precinct of the taula.

CHRONOLOGY:

Remains of barley and coal appeared in the oval cabin that is under a second talayot, located near the taula were dated with the radiocarbon technique in the 1310, the 1305 and the 1238 B.C., while some samples obtained in the precinct of the taula gave dates of the 997, 994, 866, 470, 255 and 228 B.C. The construction that we are engaged in was probably built between both periods (that is to say, 1238-997 B.C.).

NEIGHBOURING MONUMENTS:

The urban nucleus of which was part was, without a doubt a great village, since the numerous preserved constructions demonstrate: the remains of other talayot, dug a short time ago, the one that is possibly the "taula" best conserved in the island, a "columned room", several "hypogeums", among them one with patio, etc. Inside the same enclosure, negotiated today for the "Fundació Illes Balears", there are also the remains, very deteriorated, of an old hermitage, which indicates a long occupation of the settlement.

Not very far, there is the well of "Na Patarrà", which, without a doubt, gave water to the village. The "intermediate pattern naveta" of "Torralbet" is also very near.
