SO NA CAÇANA
(Sanctuaries)
Monument 2 of So na Caçana from the Monument 4

LOCATION:

Situation

To the right of the highway that goes from Alaior to Cala en Porter, very near the crossing of this with the one that, from Maó, leads to the same creek.

MUNICIPAL DISTRICT:

Alaior.

DESCRIPTION:

The group is formed by about 10 monuments, among which we highlight two enclosures of "taula" (Monuments 2 and 5), a kind of square "talayot" with concave facade and apse (Monument 4) and some possible houses (Monuments 3 and 7). Some of the constructions are in very bad condition and they have not still been dug completely.

CHRONOLOGY:

Everything seems to indicate that the hypogeum that is under the Monument 3 of the monumental group was excavated in the rock toward 1500 B.C. (Pretalayotic time) and that the sanctuary lost its functionality toward the year 200 B.C. (Talayotic IV), although afterwards the group would be used like habitat until the century IV A.D.

The radiocarbon dates that have been obtained starting from samples of coal related with the monuments 3 and 4 are of the years 869, 831 and 806 B.C. (calibrated).

NEIGHBOURING MONUMENTS:

At 1 km, there is the Talayotic ensemble of "Torrellisà Vell" and, at 3 km, the "necropolis of hypogeums" of "Calascoves". On the same highway, but near Alaior, there is the village of "Torralba d'en Salort" and the "naveta of intermediate pattern" of "Torralbet".
